Un clergé régulier en frontière chrétienne. L’Ordre de Malte au temps des Réformes (1530-1660)
Abstract
In the 16th century, the Order of Malta underwent a profound religious crisis. In 1522 and 1551, the losses of Rhodes and Tripoli called into question its vow of holy war, while Protestantism affected the convent. The Hospitallers therefore had to work on religious renewal, in order to revive their image as perfect knights of Christ and masters of hospitality to the sick and poor.
